　　綺麗な小川の水を飲み
　　ヒワの歌に耳を傾けよう
　　そしてそこに寝転んで
　　一日中まどろんでいよう
　　夜がきたら起き上がって
　　悲しみに相応しいところに行こう
　　暗い谷間を歩き通して
　　物言わぬ憂鬱を道連れにして

昼と夜、明と暗、喜びと悲しみの対比はブレイクが好んで歌ったところ。この詩にもそのコントラストが表現されている。
